S.L. 549.136 Art. 4Calculation of 1% of the total annual mortality of the reference population. 3
The 1% of the total annual mortality of Malta’s reference population of Golden Plover and Song Thrush shall be calculated as follows:
Golden Plover (Pluvialis apricaria altifrons)
Minimum breeding success: 3.64 birds per pair: (203,000 x 3.64) = 738,920
st Mortality rate of 1 year birds: (738,920 x 53.33%) = 394,066
Mortality rate of adults: (406,000 x 27%) = 109,620
Total annual mortality: (394,066 + 109,620) = 503,686
1% of total annual mortality: (503,686 x 1%) = 5,036
Song Thrush (Turdus philomelos)
Minimum breeding success: 4 birds per pair: (1,365,000 x 4) = 5,460,000
st Mortality rate of 1 year birds: (5,460,000 x 56%) = 3,057,600
Mortality rate of adults: (2,730,000 x 43.3%) = 1,182,090
Total annual mortality: (3,057,600 + 1,182,090) = 4,239,690
1% of total annual mortality: (4,239,690 x 1%) = 42,396.
