(1) The operator of an authorised port reception facility and of a port and terminal shall ensure that all his personnel receive the necessary training to acquire knowledge which is essential for their work on dealing with waste, with specific attention to health and safety aspects pertaining to dealing with hazardous materials, and that training requirements are regularly updated to meet the challenges of technological innovation. (2) Without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing, this obligation shall be subject to the applicable legislation in force dealing with occupational health and safety and protection of the environment, and to any directives by the responsible national competent authorities.
