S.L. 499.60 Art. 3Minimum safety requirements.

(1) The Authority shall be responsible for ensuring that any tunnel constructed along the Trans-european Road Network route in Malta shall meet the minimum safety requirements laid down in the First Schedule.

(2) The Authority shall ensure that:

(a) tunnels are tested and inspected on a regular basis and that safety requirements pertaining thereto are drawn up;

(b) organisational and operational schemes, including emergency response plans, for the training and equipping of emergency services are put in place;

(c) the procedure for immediate closure of a tunnel in an emergency is clearly defined; and

(d) the necessary risk reduction measures are implemented.
