S.L. 46.1 Art. 11Assay procedure.

(1) The assay of gold alloys shall be carried out by the cupellation process and the assay of silver alloys shall be carried out by a chemical process.

(2) In cases where the Consul deems that it is not technically possible to extract sufficient sample to carry out an assay, testing of precious metal articles or groups thereof, shall be made by the use of the touchstone and gold or silver points of standard known to the Consul.
