S.L. 327.10 Art. 4Objectives and functions.

The Institute shall serve as a central diffuser of information and research on the Mediterranean. The Institute shall:

(a) offer postgraduate degree programmes at masters and doctoral level which are multidisciplinary in nature and which do not adversely effect ongoing activities related to Mediterranean Studies of respective faculties;

(b) develop the study and research on the Mediterranean as a network of communication, paying particular attention to intercultural exchanges throughout its history and intercultural dialogue in the present day;

(c) promote an inter-faculty and a multidisciplinary approach to the Mediterranean, through a holistic understanding of this region, its cultures and its people;

(d) publish a journal of Mediterranean Studies as well as other relevant scholarly journals to disseminate both research and popularisation studies dealing with amongst others the history, culture, environment, economy, politics and societies of the Mediterranean; and

(e) act as a resource centre for the provision of experts and expertise on Mediterranean issues, and to offer services to the government as well as to other institutions, private organisations and individuals as the Board may from time to time determine.
